I am about to buy my first big, flat screen TV. I don't want anything over 40'.....any suggestions/recommendations.

Hi Ray,

If you're wanting lots of opinions, go to this link below. A great site for just about anything you want to know.

This forum will give you a great place to start and if you are going to watch fast action, sport etc plasma is the go but I don't think you can buy plasma units anymore.
Go for an LED, you'll have to make your mind up whether you want a smart TV or a normal unit.
Panasonic are a great brand but everyone has their favourites.

Cheers

I've got a LG 3D "smart" TV, last years model - brilliant! YouTube on the big screen is awesome! Kids love the 3D movies as well - gotta admit I do too! :D

Thanks for the useful and helpful info so far lads.....especially you Paul
I am wanting what I ever I get to incorporate a DVD player but apparently that is a rear and hard-to-find feature in most TVs over 40'

I think TEAC was about the only brand that offered a in-TV DVD player from memory. Dude - think Blueray, which will play DVD's in any case. Blueray much better! Blueray players are cheap as chips mate!

We have a Sony Bravia 46"(not too big for the lounge room). The son has a 50" Samsung UHD and it is nice! He is single and in a small flat and plays a lot of XBox and watches a lot of Netflix.

I'd go a UHD TV (that is what we will be getting next when the current one goes on the blink), great for watching blue rays and the odd HD free to air channel, when they decide to transmit in HD that is. Now that you have Broadband you could go the 'smart tv' which can stream video from the web, from the free to air channels to the pay services like Netflix.

The Choice website will be another good reference for comparing TVs.

An extra $100 will get you a decent Blue Ray player, as mentioned, the picture is a lot better than the old DVD player. Getting a TV with built-in player will limit the picture quality options as well.

I would have to agree with Paul less than 40" is quite average not large at all ;)

As Ray says spend the extra and get a UHD it is a bit like computers out of date before you get it plugged in.

40' is way big enough for my needs Graeme.
You know what they say about blokes with big TVs ;)
Seriously though, I don't need all the bells and whistles, (or even Blue Ray....DVDs are fine for me, or internet streaming), just a good reliable TV that won't need replacing in six months time.
