:D, Hi. My name's Ross and I'm in love with aeroplanes. I haven't seen a LAT in the flesh since 1983 and I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms. Pictures just don't do it for me any more. I must have a MAT/LAT/VLAT to fondle in the flesh or in the aluminium at least. Oh wait. I forgot I have a couple of mini MATs in plastic so perhaps I should fondle them instead. Nah, not the same thing as fondling the real thing

Regards,
RHB.

:D, Ha ha Adam. The only thing I know about LATS is I had a mate who accompanied the RAAF's test of the MAFFS in 1983 and I worked on that aircraft later from 1986-89 long after the MAFFS had been removed. My mate invited me to come and have a look at it before they went to the Ash Wednesday fires and I saw them doing initial test over the base at Richmond. I know next to nothing about MATS or VLATS.

To all those LAT/VLAT nay-sayers and doubters out there, (and you know who you are), I know it's wrong, but all I wanna say to you is
I FRIGGEN TOLD YOU SO!!!!!! :D
Clearly the NSW Government agrees with your "expert" opinions!! NOOOOOOT!!!
Common sense now prevails and we finally have the right fire-fighting airborne assets in place to deal with our fire conditions.

Bravo NSW and VIC Governments, you have finally "seen the light"

That is just incredible footage! I think there also needs to be a big and powerful campaign to stop potential arsonists in their tracks too - publically warn of severe penalties with very long jail terms. I remember as a kid in the 60's there were far more TV "info" regarding bushfires - how to prepare the house, what to wear in the event of a fire, when to leave, etc. It was really in your face back then from memory. Simple things like blocking the gutters and filling them with water, clearing away leaves/branches away from the home, wearing a woollen jumper outside to guard against radiant heat - simple things that can save homes and lives - anyone else remember these TV "infomercials"?

Anyway, looks like they've now got all the tools for this coming fire season - great news indeed!

Interesting that the VLATs/LATs have been called into action so early in the fire season. Bet the Lancefield residents are glad they are here :D .....I know I am.
Tell me again oh self-proclaimed "experts" on that other model site how we are all stupid, and have this so wrong. What's that I hear.....the sound of silence 8-)

Hello darknes my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain,
Still remains,
Within the sounds of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone,
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light,
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw,
Ten thousand people maybe more,
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share,
Noone dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools", said I, "You do not know.
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed ,
To the neon god they made,
and the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenament halls
And whispered in the sound of silence."

I first heard these words 51 years ago when I was 11 or 12 years old. They have ever been true, are still true today and will be long after I'm dead and gone. Let's hope the LAT/VLAT detractors think on these words and see the foolishness of their ideas and even buy some. I think we could at least afford a squadron of MATS (Bombardier CL-415s). They and our LATS/VLATS could be leased to other nations in our off season and I've been saying this for over 40 years now. My words always seemed to get lost in the sound of silence, especially when I've suggested these ideas to politicians at various functions.

Regards,
RHB.

Well, well, well.....so it has just been reported on the News that the VIC and SA Governments are now pleading to the Federal Government for more VLAT/LAT capacity. Oh what a difference a few fire seasons make.
