Dash 8 -100 to -300 conversion

Postby RayS » Mon Aug 31, 2015 2:50 pm

Hey guys,

Looking at the the repainted JetStar Dash 8 made me think maybe I want to build a -300 in 1/72.

Is all that is required to make the Hobbycrap kit into a -300 a couple of fuselage plugs? How big would they be?

The main undercarriage is a bit different with more of a lean aft on the leg. I'm hoping to get some drawings and pics from the -300 maintenance manual to see if it's really worth doing. The only other thing will be to add the ditching dams under the underwing emergency exits but that'll be easy as. Apart from those just extend the fuselage and you're done. I want to do this same conversion as well. If I remember, when I go back up to TSV I'll wander over the the paint shop and try and get a paint code or same of the silver. But it does require me to remember stuff

Here's a couple of pics to show the difference between the -100 and the -300. Not really a lot in it. The U/C fairings are slightly different but not much really

Thanks Paul, I thought you would be in the know.

Another kit to cut up and make some plugs. Looks like the wing span was also increased by 1.54m so I will check some pictures to see if they were just tip extensions.

It'll be the first time I've ever cut up a model. Might need a few pointers when it comes time :D

I wonder if Ryan Hamilton would be interested in doing some body plugs for the 1:72 Hobbycraft Dash 8 kit, as he did for the 1:144th Zvezda 787 and Mach 1:72 Viscount kits???. If enough of us ordered some, it may be viable for him to do. I know I would order a couple of sets for both a QantasLink and Jetstar Dash 8 300.

Ryan's set was the Customs conversion set, don't recall a -300 from him

Might have to see if there's some PVC pipe the right size :)
