1937-04-30 departed by train for New York, shipped aboard SS Rayville for Australia
1937-06-16 registered to John Francis Jackson, St George, Queensland
1940-10-07 sold to F/Lt. John William Fitzclarence Collins, ‘Nindoonbah’ property, Beaudesert, Queensland
1941-05-21 crashed about 8:20 pm on take-off from Archer Field, Brisbane, Queensland, hit a tree 580 yards outside southwest of the field and burned, John (35) and Sqn. leader Roy Cecil Phillips (M.C., D.F.C., 45) C.O. of No.2 Elemetary Flying Training School (2EFTS) were both killed instantly, the Stag totally destroyed, Collins apparently mistook the throttle lever for that of the undercarriage, which were near identical in appearance in this one.

Damn! Another model I have to build now - ARGH!

Shortly after Mother Nature screwed my hands up, I was in Imperial Hobbies in Richmond and there on the shelf was the D17S on floats. Now I know that I'll never be able to build the kit...The devil made me buy it! It is the Roden kit in 1:48.

Do they bring moulds back into production after a while
Sometimes, not usually - these moulds have had two lifetimes, Sword and AZ, so probably not again
are the moulds had it after 1,000 or so kits have been put through them
Depends what they are made from. - these are fairly old so probably had it
Do they repair or remanufacture the moulds at all

Or produce new ones from time to time

Staggerwing would be a popular enough aeroplane for them to justify the cost of keeping it going as long as possible
My guess is they feel the market is saturated
very popular with Bitish, US, Canadian, Australian and NZ modellers
Yes, that’s why people build them or hold on to them
would they consider doing it again
Probably not although another manufacturer might think it was worthwhile

Personally I would just persevere with swap meets and work on my contacts until you find a Sword or AZ one.

G'day Ed. Thirty odd years ago I had a copy of the Rareplanes Staggerwing. I don't know if it's still in the stash or not. From memory I'd cut out the parts and was making the undercariage from wire I got from work. I'll be having a clean up of my garage next month and the stash will be one of the first parts I do so I'll see if I still have it. I might email Roden and see if they would consider it worth their while to do it in 1/72, a downscaling of the 1/48 kit. Thank you for your patient replies.

Just happened to catch up on some modelling reading in the past few evenings (FSM) and spotted the AMT 1/48 Beech G17S Staggerwing. Apparently the AMT brand owner (Round 2 LLC) has reintroduced the kit, along with the Stinson Reliant SR-9.
