Caustic soda concentration

For those who use a caustic bath - I'm lookin' at you, Ray! - what sort of concentration do you use? As in soda to water?

A couple of table spoons in say a 2 L ice cream tub for something like that, but it will generate a lot of heat to begin with so let it stand for a while to cool

I rarely use that method these days, I prefer Oven Cleaner, but must be the caustic kind to work, and do use a mask when spraying that stuff, preferably outside, and upwind, it burns the throat something terrible with either method if you breath it in

I've used the oven cleaner trick on my 1/32 Seafury and it worked a treat. I've got a Sabre that my Dad built years ago that I wanna redo sometime. If I used a caustic bath, would it dissolve the glue holding it together as well?

To answer the question.... it depends! It depends on how long you leave it in the bath, the base strength, what sort of glue, the strength of the bond (proper weld or a 'glue-joint') and the type of polystyrene. The likely answer is "yes, it will". Even the "Easy Lift Off" referred to in the other thread will dissolve glue if it's left long enough and likely many of the above parameters are relevant to ELO too

Yep, it always gets me out of cleaning the oven - I usually offer to take it outside to clean it!

The best Sea Fury model I've ever seen - built by Peter from Airscale. Not bad huh for a "civvie" Sea Fury! This is master modelling at it's very finest.

Seeing this beautiful build does make me seriously think of stripping mine down and re-painting it. The crap decals I used were a disaster and have to come off. So, I guess my post if not too much of a thread drift after all!
