1/72 Argy A-4C but now A-4P

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

Yet another update. All work has stopped on this as I have f*&^ed up big time. Unfortunately there's a HUGE difference in the nose shape between an A-4B and A-4C. You can see the difference in the nose shape in the following pics.

The one I was doing

And the one (similar) I will now be doing

And here it is at the moment with the tape removed

Hopefully when I'm done, it'll look like this

So I guess I'll be sanding of the lovely stripes and starting again. Ya get that

Feel your pain mate....can't remember the last time I painted a model and didn't have to strip it back at least once!
Pretending to do it TAC style with the big boys since 1987
Also, we don't need no steenkin' VLATs!

You will get there Paul - we're all "Plastic Masochists" after all!

Without scale aircraft plastic modelling, who knows what other trouble we'd get into! me, Currently I'm fighting very poorly fitting Trumpeter Me-262 engine nacelles at the moment. Well, pretty well everything fits poorly on large scale Trumpeter kits!

Stripes have been sanded back and resprayed with Tamiya white primer ready for the Tamiya yellow stripes tomorrow. I might get the light blue undersides done Friday if I have time. First thing tomorrow I need to go and stock up on Gunze paints at a cheap $2 a jar 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Do you find it easier to lay down stripes first? Would it not be easier to do this last after the camo? Doing it your way you have to double mask so to speak.

Just checking what are the advantages. You are a master of masking!

Cheers

The problem is that with the yellow stripes, you need a white base coat. As I use Tamiya white primer as the base coat, doing the stripes first I don't get a buildup of white primer along the edge of the masking tape which might show once the tape has been removed. Also there's the whole light colour over dark colour thing that my OCD can't deal with

Bugger!!!! :?
If it makes ya fell any better Paul, my 1:144th Impulse 717 and I:96 BOAC/Qantas hybrid Britannia are both up to their third strip-backs, (which is why they are both hanging form the "curtain rail of doom").
Hang in there mate, she'll be right.

Never fear chaps. This A-4 isn't anywhere near the silver Hurricane. I reckon I'll have it done when I get home from TSV :)
