KP 1/72 Avia B534

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

This one was built many years ago. I found it not too bad to build and I liked the fine raised detail, especially the rib tapes on the wings and tail surfaces. This one has no interior detail but I do have the later Aeroteam version of this kit which I am detailing with a lot of scratch building in the pit. The colour isn't quite right (it should have more brown in it) but I didn't have a computer back then and it was the best I could do with the references I had at the time. I do like the unusual and off beat subjects and someday soon I'll buy some of the new Eduard versions of this aircraft so I can get all the various versions of it.

And another Polikarpov. This time the Heller I-153. This was an easy and enjoyable kit to build. Not sure what unit it's from but I did do a little scratch building, the exhausts were stretched sprue as was the oil cooler outlet duct which in those (once again pre computer) days I thought was a dual exhaust outlet hence the staining behind it.

Now something on the civvie side. This one is a Polish kit of a Polish glider, the Sep. This company produced a series of Polish gliders years ago. So far this is the only one I've built but I have the others in the stash waiting for a chance to be built.

What Paul said! There is just something mysterious about aeroplanes from Eastern Europe and beyond.

Great work on what no doubt were challenging kits.

Cheers

Thank you fellows. I have to agree with you there Adam, although I like biplanes of any colour, creed or language. I have plenty in the stash to do. I guess I could say I like most aircraft from the between wars period no matter how many wings they have. Maybe it's because I'm a baby boomer and there were still plenty of aircraft from those days flying around in the 50s and 60s. I grew up about a mile from the old Royal Newcastle Aero Club's field at Broadmeadow in Newcastle so I was quite used to seeing the Tiger Moths and other types doing circuits until 1961 when the Club moved to Maitland. The site of the club's old airfield is now the site of the Hunter Stadium and the Harness racing track but does still (for the moment) have a link to aviation as that's where the Hunter Regional Westpac Rescue Helicopter is based until some time next year when they are moving to the reopened Belmont (AeroPelican) airport, a;though the maintenance will still be carried out at Broadmeadow. They even had a Miles Gemini in those days and a Wackett Trainer named Miss Jennifer. I'm also a member of the Aero Club and in our Air League office there is a kind of mural thingy on the wall of many of the Club's aircraft from that era painted by a now deceased member of the Club. I'll take some pics of it next weekend and post them in the appropriate forum here as well as some of the rescue Helicopter base.

RHB.
