A Postcard from RAF Cosford, Iron Bridge and Telford

Postby VH-WAL » Sat Jul 23, 2016 5:32 am

Our Perth neighbour is in the UK at the same time as us. We went to Telford (where the annual model convention thingy happens) to pick him for a few days stay with us. We stayed overnight at Telford before going out to pick him up... on the drive out there there was a sign saying "Air Museum" NEXT EXIT...the car inexplicable went off planned route and we ended up at RAF Cosford.
Oh wow by the end of the visit I have a few "must have"kits on the wish list..chief amongst them all...The Brittania love one in 1/72. I actually got to touch a TSR 2 the Bristol 188, FW190, Valiant and fondled many others ..all in all a wonderful unexpected experience. As for the Jaguars I didnt know they were still flying! Didnt stay as long as I could have will go back one day.

After the museum we went to Iron Bridge to see the first cast iron bridge structure built in 1779. The ruins are of the first iron smelter that used coke instead of coal in the refining process

ahh Cosford, a total time warp museum, was a lot better before they cut and scrapped all the Airliners, hard to believe that they could do that.

don't think I have ever seen the water under Iron Bridge so calm

Great photos Wal, the Jaguar still looks as sleek as ever.
But no photos of the Fw-190 Wal, Hopefully it will be included in the next photo op.
Love that bridges construction, a work of art of civil engineering.
Cheers

It hits home just how old it is when you stand on The Iron Bridge and think of where Australia was at when it was opened.

It's sometimes good, A330, to remember that we are still a young nation, with many of our mistakes ahead of us, I suppose. I was thinking the same thing the other day when I heard an ad for a CD of Mozarts final three symphonies. While he was beavering away on them in Vienna Governor Philip and his gang had just arrived on the shores of Australia. Makes you think.
