The greatest scratch builders

Postby Adam the Akrodude » Thu Jul 23, 2015 10:10 am

That is amazing Graeme! Seeing the vid of the 777 thrust reverser operate in scale form made from manila folder cardboard is truly epic! I really have to give myself a stern talking to regarding whinged about accuracy and fit of plastic kit parts - from any kit.

I've now amended the title so anyone can add any inspirational model aircraft builders - whatever the construction type and material medium used.

Great post!

Cheers

Yeah, that's Peter Castle from airscale. A member here, but also a significant contributor (and sponsor) on LSP.

Peter get's my Golden Crossed Exacto Knives with Oakleaves award I think! Looking at the front U/C leg he's building for the Tigercat this morning is just mind blowing!

Here's someone else on the same level (Richard, aka Ripaman):

Check out Richard's scratch-built landing gear leg for the HpH Catalina:

Yes, that's 1/32 scale...

OK......I gotta stop looking at threads like this one, cause it makes me realise what a rank amateur modeller I am, (and here I was thinking how clever I am because I added hydraulic lines and landing lights to a 1:144 th 747  ).

@Kev - that is just wild!

@Ray - don't be intimidated, be inspired! Adding hydraulic lines to a 1/144 jet is pretty good in my book. Not much else you can do in that scale - perhaps some wheel well detail if needed? To me it's all about reaching one's own comfort level with detail. Got to keep the fun aspect happening so it doesn't become a chore. I've certainly gone too far before - hand riveting a 1/32 Fw-190D9 - rivet by rivet! That was a modelling nightmare!

Knotty, ya better rent that truck and come and pick up this model stash, I have no further need for it.
Think I will take up knitting as a hobby from this point forward.
