Civvie stuff - Duxford Jan 2015

I understand that there are a few "Civvie" aficionado's here, so knowing that I did my best to take a few pic's of the civvie offerings at Duxford during my visit. Of most interest to me was the Avro York, as my father worked on them many years ago when doing his national service in the RAF post WW2. My father was a instrument fitter at a York squadron and was kept pretty busy during the Berlin Airlift.

Thanks Knotty. The light was terrible unfortunately. Duxford is certainly best visited during summer and preferably during a air show (as Oz RB Paul well knows the lucky duck!). Maybe next year I'll try to make that happen. To me Duxford was worth visiting to see the SR-71 alone - that was my prime aim this time.

You can only work with what you have Adam . I went there in 2006 pretty much the same ,no sun ........had a good look around , but unfortunately the hanger with all the good stuff in it was closed for renovations.  so no TSR2 or Concorde or all the other good stuff for me !!!! Bummer ...... Will have to go back now at some stage . ;) ;)

Oh major bummer Knotty! I was also going to go to RAF Hendon - same deal, closed for reno's. Nothing mentioned on the website prior to this either. Typical British anti-service. I almost felt like Clark Griswold on "Vacation". Westminster Abbey and Duxford was most certainly enough for me though - only just had enough time to do these on my two days off.

With the addition of the "American" museum, Duxford must now be UK's best aircraft museum I'd think.

Fabulous photos. I particularly loved the Comet, VC-10 and Trident. The Poms might not be very good at making airliners that make a lot of money but they certainly make very attractive ones. I'm envious.
