Air Vietnam Engine Failure.

Postby Knotty » Tue May 06, 2014 6:46 pm

This Air Vietnam Airbus A330-200 blew an engine attempting to take off at Melbourne Airport today . With a rejected takeoff , the Aircraft ended up at the runway intersection ...........The Airport was shut for 40 mins , poor old Stu had to sit it out while waiting to pax home . As you can see , a fair bit of damage was done .........including several holes in the flaps .just another day at the Airport. ;) ;)

Did it make the news tonight - missed it. What's the function of the blow out doors out of interest? When do they operate and is this automatic? Are they the "thrust reversers" to coin a term, or do they open due to over-temp/over pressure in the engine core?

Cheers

Adam

Adam , the blow out doors open due to over pressure in the engine . I heard the loud bang on it 's takeoff roll , followed by lots of smoke as they rejected the takeoff. The smoke was due to heavy braking .
The thrust reversers are in the cowl of the engine [in behind the main fan so to speak ] as the cowl slides back .....a series of doors around the cowl open and defect the thrust forward.
hope this helps .
