For a "Merlin", that's ridiculous...the Late Spitfire Griffon at its height was just on 2000.
I wonder how often one must completely replace this "Merlin"?
G forces of the airframe must be enormous in that 85 degree turn too.
Read somewhere that they use very high boost on these engines - something like 150" plus. They'd practically be rebuilt after the race and great cost, with NDT X-ray and perhaps die-pen on many engine parts. Just a standard Merlin o-haul is around $100k - just imagine what the cost is on these engines! I remember reading about Mustangs using 60"+ boost trying to intercept 262's and stuffing the engines doing this. Hey Brad, when you get your Mustang, try to remember to keep the boost down, as it could get expensive for ya!
G-forces - guessing around 4 g in the turns - any more and they'd be bleeding off too much energy. It would be a long 4 G though and pretty fatiguing.
Strega would look really cool with a A/CAM logo on the side. Imagine the hand slapping we'd all have as to who would get to fly it!
