Bury it in Burma.

But seriously, what would you do with it? Preserve every aircraft that is retired? That's just not realistic. This is exactly why enthusiasts are the worst people to run aviation museums.

Nothing to do with burying/keeping/renewing/refurbishing/restoring the 744.
[although I have thousands of hours in them & am quite fond of them]

Everything to do with the parlous state of the airline and the ineptitude of those held (ir)responsible for it's survival...
Admittedly, it's difficult to empathise if you're not at the coal face.

Cutting off the empennage was very symbolic.

Very sad Salty , I would of pumped some litres into that one over the years , just as you would of spent some time caressing the controls of this once proud airliner. They did a bloody good job for Qantas .

Great aircraft !!

There is something very sad and tragic about watching the wanton destruction of a magnificent aeroplane like the 747, (or any aeroplane for that matter). I know it must be done, but it doesn't make it any easier to watch. That is no way to treat a majestic and beautiful "queen of the skies" that had served her airline and passengers so loyally and safely for 30 odd years.
