Aware of the Large Scale Jets controversy and there were some justified concerns with some of the results. I was happy with my placing in that category as I am happy to place behind quality competition. Haven’t seen anything about the post ‘35 stuff.

Got examples or is this another throw away comment from you?

What is disappointing is your constant shit stirring directed at me and others ie; your stupid aversion to pilots, and your constant winging about trophy hunters. Many of your ‘friends’have spoken about this to me and it is a sad reflection on you. Especially as your old enough to know when to stop.

Regarding your comment, a lot of the concerns that I have seen aired on social media have been more than justified and this is the first year in the last 7 that I have felt that the judging was not up to scratch in some categories, not just in the ones that I have entered. Yes, some have been a bit emotional but in general have hit the spot. I have been approached in person at expo and via Facebook by a significant amount of people about the result of the civil non airliner category but have thus far resisted saying anything as I accept the judges decision. Remember the bullshit that surrounded my Sabre a couple of years ago regarding missing references? I didn’t say a word!

Paul, it may be a joke to you to enter a shit model (your words) but many of us go to great effort to get things right and try to do the best at the championship and also come to this event from all corners to compete. To see stuff that simply isn’t up to scratch be put into the comp, in some cases ‘so I get in to the event for free for the weekend’ do well over models which are obviously better is simply not good enough and will only decrease the quality of the event, as those of us that try start phoning it in rather than actually pushing the boundaries and coming up with better stuff or even worse, stop entering.

I am sure that over a few beers you wouldn’t be to bad to get along with, but your online persona really sucks mate.

I don't think it's a case of people being sore losers, I think it's a case of people simply not understanding how the judging is conducted. As I keep saying, just because you can't see why a model did not place, does not mean the judges didn't see the reason. Models are picked up and we do look at the under surface, the wheel wells and some guys have little lights to see into the cockpits better. I know who judged large scale jets, I trust that they had very good reasons to make the decisions they did. The thing is, none of the people in the category who have come out on the forums, actually took the time to inquire with the Chief Judge.

For what it's worth, I judged Submarines and there was a big thread on ModelArt about how "my" model didn't win, it was great, my paint is fabulous, boohoo I forgot my reference etc. Let's just say even if he had his reference, his model wouldn't have placed. The fault could not be seen by the casual viewer and that is why in my tips section, I tell people that we pick up the models.......

In most categories, if you asked even the experienced judges to pick their place winners by eye from 4ft away, they would usually come up with very different models than when it's closely looked at.

there was a guy on the facebook thread complaining about both the large scale jet(saying that models with miss alignments all over the place beat perfect models) he also complained about large scale props (post 1935) for the same reason...bugger if i know why as looking at my pics i think the correct plane won in both catergories(the Chippy Ho F18 and RAAF P40N were stunning in my mind) as for tha result in civvy non airline class there were a few raised eyebrows but the judges MUST have seen something....some of the complaining on the facebook (and you were one of the quieter ones) really seemed to be over the top....at least the international modeler that started the whole thing once it was explained to him apologized for his statement and credit to him for admitting he was wrong...every expo seems to bring this up and social media makes giving a voice so much easier and the whole thought of being invisible behind a keyboard seems in my mind to make it even worse....but that is the modern world we live in.

Hey Eric. Wondering how long this would be coming. You know what's funny? I've noticed recently that the only time you seem to pop up is when I've made a comment that somehow offends you. I'm flattered by the stalking mate but trust me, you ain't my type. No, honestly you're not.

Firstly I hope you don't think of this as supposedly "a throw away comment" cos it isn't. A little long winded if anything. I've tried to be as clear as I can for you. As for examples you request, you were on that Facebook post so surely I don't really have to spell it out for you as it was all there in black and white.

Shit stirring directed at you? Really? Trust me mate, I've got way better things to do than think up ways to have a dig at you so don't flatter yourself. If you don't like what I have to say, scroll on past mate. It's a very simple concept and to quote your good self "Especially as your old enough to know". I know quite a few pilots that are great mates who are awesome pilots and I know some shit ones that I wouldn't let my dog's crap fly with. I also know a few deadshit LAME's as well that I wouldn't let fix your bike, let alone my own. So as you can see, it's not all about you. By now, you and my 'friends' should know that I'm a straight shooter and call it as I see it. The ones I talk to regularly certainly know this and don't seem to have a problem. I'm definitely not a perfect person that has been wrong in the past and am man enough to say so. But I will call bullshit and a spade a spade if and when required. Take it or leave it, that's your issue not mine. You and anyone else had 2 1/2 days at expo to bring up any issues you have with me face to face, but alas that didn't happen. I'm not that scary a person but I do understand it's a lot safer from behind a keyboard.

I can only assume you are correct about a couple of things regarding the judging at this year's expo as I don't have first hand knowledge but a lot of the carry on last night was pure sour grapes. And the personal slagging off of judges, whether they got it wrong or right was a load of crap. "I've been approached 1000's of people about your behavior as well". See how silly a comment like that is to make? It is just hollow words at best. I have no doubt that it's been eating at you that I placed in front of you and that a lowly LAME managed that. That, my friendis how you come across. I'm just as surprised as you but I'll accept the decision just like I have everyother time I've come away with nothing. It's called being a good loser as well as a good winner bud. As nice as the recognition was, I was actually more stoked how well my little man did. As you can see, it's not all about me either. If it'd make you feel better mate, I'd happily send my trophy up to you, so PM me your address and I'll get it in the post ASAP yeah. I'll even cover the postage. You can say what you like about me or my models mate. I'm a big boy with broad shoulders so I think I can take it without the need of tissues or a cup of cement. As for your Sabre, I wouldn't have a clue what the issue was so I can't and won't comment on that one.

It was no joke that I entered the Spitfire mate. I wasn't sure how many models would be on the civvie table so I actually entered 5 so that at a minimum there'd be models on the table. You build a stunning model mate, there's no doubt about that. But it's somewhat judgemental that just because someone else's model isn't up to YOUR standards, doesn't mean it's any less worthy to be at expo. Pretty bloody arrogant actually. Hate to tell you mate even you make mistakes modelling. I know you'll take this as an attack on 'trophy hunters' no matter what I say. I'm sure you'll get over it. If someone enters a comp just for the experience and learning, they have every right to be there just as much as someone after trophies. Using your "decrease the quality of the event" logic I guess we should get rid of the junior and intermediate categories cos they aren't up to your high standards. If that's the case, who would decide who's model can be displayed and whos can't? You? Obviously those that don't have your skills aren't a threat to your trophy haul so why can't they enter? Why can't someone enter a model that they are proud of, using the skills they have learnt? If you can't appreciate the effort that has gone into someone elses model without shit canning it then that, to use your words "is a sad reflection on you". Constructive criticism is good. Slagging off not so much. If it's that much of a drama for someone because there are inferior models to theirs and they choose not to enter, then that's their choice. But they should not stop others entering and enjoying the competition.

With regards to your last comment, I don't drink beer and once again, I've got big shoulders.
Now can we give it a rest and not ruin yet another thread? Hope so. And believe it or not, I'm looking forward to seeing what you enter next year.

Cheers :)
