While the F-14 was not our usual "trade", she was always an impressive "receiver". Seeing a Tomcat hanging off your wing really gave you an appreciation for just how dam big she was.



Note the replacement rudder on the 707, (it was "borrowed" from a USAF KC-135).

Very cool pic's and yep, those 14's were big birds. Isn't it weird that the only ones flying now are in Iran.

Very Cool Pics. I always wanted to see a Tomcat in flight, but luck didn't turn that way for me. I swear the only reason I want to go to Hawaii is to see the Tomcat there and visit our F-111.

Troy, I have been fortunate enough to have encountered F-14s on a number of occasions in my travels, both in the air and on the ground, (even being on tarmac with them at the legendary home of Top Gun (aka NAS Miramar). They really are a very charismatic and cool jet, and they look just awesome armed to the teeth with AIM-54s, AIM-7s, and AIM-9s.


She had obviously been using her Vulcan recently.

I agree completely about the look of the F-14. One of the disappointments about the loss of Grumman is that they made such purposeful looking fighters. I had the opportunity to stand around with them on the flight decks of the Abraham Lincoln and (I think) the Saratoga when they called in at Fremantle. I have photos from the Saratoga around here somewhere but my camera battery died on the way out to the Lincoln, so no photos there.

Grumman is still around - just merged with Northrup. Who knows, maybe they will return with a 6th Gen offering? This will not be for some time - maybe 15-20 years - who knows. NG also had that flying "Dorito" X-47B that did conduct sea trials - auto landing, in flight refuelling - some very revolutionary stuff. NG also have the B-21 bomber contract with the USAF.
