Well if the pilot didn't go super-sonic, they are definitely tran-sonic. If I recall correctly from my RAAF training days, and as foggy as my memory gets sometimes, a Hornet goes tran-sonic at around .85 Mach. No doubt someone will correct me if this is the wrong figure.
