Emirates have asked to have their 380's re-engined with RR. As much as I love 4 engines, I have to say the 787 is awesome (apart from the electrical fire thing). Stu knows the numbers I gave him last night ref: the 380 fuel burn Vs pax load...it's quite shocking. 207,000kg fuel burn LAX-MEL. 480 pax. 15hrs 10mins flight time.
I wounder what precipitated the Emirates move from 350 to 777X?
I know the tripler is a ripper, and Boeing is very disappointed at the 747-800 sales, but its not that surprising.
I remember in the 90's anybody who had a Cathay interview read up on the RB211.. Triple spool, better efficiency etc..
I think your right mate about the 747-8.. The worlds moving away from prolific 4 engine operations..the big twins will be the workhorses in years to come.
It's hard for me to get used to these changing times... I remember when the air was clean and the sex was dirty..
Good discussion men , hey Salty .......my mate at work thanks you for an early fuel figure on Saturday to LAX 200 ton . He was off it early ,and had time for a cuppa he said !!! we did Emirates last night to DXB ......237,000 odd litres , glad I'm not paying for it . 787 to DPS the other day ......33 ton ......beat that hey ......unbelievable !!! . The old Ansett 767-200s were 50 ton every time for the same trip .
Yeah... It's busy upstairs eating sandwiches and drinking coffee mate..no time for the real workers.. I always wonder onto the Tarmac and talk shit with knotty and his mates...
