Interesting AMI discusion: Hobby HQ

All I would say is that it would be a shame to loose yet another local retailer, (especially one that has been around for so long), but having witnessed the rather bizarre Model Expo pricing policies of this particular vendor, I can only but agree with our own Capt Eric.

Yep , after 2014 expo pricing I can only agree also . How can something be $70 on Saturday and by Monday the exact same kit had climbed to $85 !! So if you couldn't make it to expo until Monday ........bad luck !!

I too thought that was a weird way of doing buisness. Most cons I go to, the Merch gets cheaper over the weekend. Williams prices were even cheaper for the Friday night set up, while no one was there or paying attention.

I like the guy, and hope he stays around, but he could probably improve his buisness in a few ways.

There you all go, second guessing William and bagging him on public forums. :x

I've spoken to him recently and understand exactly where he is coming from and support him in his decision making. ;)

Not sure how his 'sales' went at Expo (I barely had time to 'shop' given I was escorting a 'modeller of the future' and his dad around the place with the limited time we had), but methinks William had some 'self and otherwise imposed' targets to meet. I am sure he thought about the 'less is more' or 'more is less' options. It's his business after all. It all comes down to how badly someone wants a kit. If you don't get in early, you don't get the benefits. Pretty simple in my book. If you hold off buying until the very last 30 minutes on Monday, then boo-hoo you !

If you want to support Hobby HQ, go out to Thomastown and buy a f*cking kit (or two or three) :o . Don't sit back bagging the guy on a public forum for trying to run his business the best way he can, within the 'constraints' he faces. I need two hands to count the number of times I've visited William this year and purchased something and I don't mean just old second hand cheapie kits either. Quite a few new releases. 8-)

Have you ?

I have consistently purchased stuff from William over many years, not always on the basis that his offerings were the cheapest. Again, have you or are you more comfortable with bagging him due to his Model Expo 'performance' ?

I am so over all this sanctimonious whining I keep reading and hearing from modellers (or hoarders) regarding the disappearing of smaller traders, shops, etc.

William is entitled to think deeply about what he does with his life and time and why. For some people, they see him simply as a purveyor of plastic. He's of flesh and blood (and other things) and his beliefs and values are his own and don't deserve mocking in public. From the behaviour of some 'modellers' I've seen and experienced directly in public at shows/expos and on internet modelling forums, I'd say they need to grow up and get a life :o

For me, it is William's well being and quality of life that matter. His business is a secondary issue for me. It's all a matter of priorities, don't you think ?

And a final question, why the hell do people have to keep posting links from other forums here. Can't they simply go to the source and have their say there ? If they have anything of substance or consequence that is !

Now, back to your normal programming

Nicolas you can consider this your third and final warning from me as the the owner of this site. I have had enough of your self-righteous, condescending, and obnoxious statements and comments being directed towards other A/CAM members, (including myself), both on this site and the A/CAM FB page. I would strongly suggest you familiarise yourself with the A/CAM Code of Conduct.....especially as it relates to respect, (because quiet frankly, you are coming across as a smart arse).
Where this site is concerned..... I will decide weather anyone is being "bagged" or not on a public, (ie: my), forum, and it is my considered opinion that is not the case here. I don't see anyone personally attacking or otherwise mocking William, (indeed I would not allow that), all I see is a couple of people questioning certain pricing practises of a given vendor at a given model event which is, after all, their right as consumers.
The only one "bagging" others here Nicolas is you, so please desist.
As to posting links to this site, I am fine with that, and that matters Nicolas, especially given that
A/ I am the site owner
and
B/ I am the one who posted the link in this case.
As I have had cause to say to you previously Nicolas, if you don't like the dynamics and practises of my site, then feel free to go elsewhere, as I am sure there are other model sites/forums better suited to your sensitivities and needs, (better still, consider starting your own model site as I did......it's not that hard).
TOR
PS: and for what it is worth, I and many other A/CAMers have supported Hobby HQ and bought lots from William over the years, so spare us the "moral high ground" lectures Nicolas.
