First of two:
This model will represent the
Israel Aircraft Industries Boeing 707 Demonstrator aircraft "XX-707". This aircraft was specifically modified as a 3-point "probe and drogue" tanker to demonstrate to potential client air arms around the world, the expertise, capabilities, and experience gained by
IAI in the field of converting and modifying former commercial jet-airliners for the task of Air-to-Air Refuelling.
The aircraft carried a spurious civil registration and deliberate "airline-like" inconspicuous and conservative paint scheme specifically for the purposes of
A: not attracting unwanted attention and
B: negating any "political" problems or issues whilst over-flying foreign countries that were not particularly "Israel-friendly".
IAI went on to sell many Boeing 707-based tanker platforms to countries such as Australia, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Israel, South Africa, and Venezuela.
The fate of this particular 707 however, is unknown.
Progress so far has included basic construction, scratch-built wing-tip refuelling pods, custom decal preparation, and initial painting.
