Airfix 1/144 Boeing 737 'Classic' Build Article

Just collected the last month's worth of magazines from the local newsagent and I see that the December 2014 issue (Issue 49) of Airfix Model World has a lead article on the build of the recently re-released Airfix Boeing 737 'Classic'. Mike Grant (who needs no introduction to most modellers) builds it as an early -200 Series aircraft using a pair of Bra.Z engines/pylons. The article also shows how to deal with plugging all those cabin windows using a large styrene plug, creating your own styrene-based filler, along with creating painting masks and creating a nice rendition of an airport taxiway.

A short article on the early 737 variants is also included.

Thanks for those links, Ray.

I know of Mike Grant as master of 1/72 scale kits, but I didn't know of his airliner work. I was astounded by what he did with the Airfix Gazelle helicopter in 1/72 which was published in one of the UK modelling magazines in the last couple of years.

He also has his own line of decals:

I don't suppose you'd have a link to the Gazelle would ya Nicholas? :)

Good find hrtpaul,

That's the very Gazelle I read about.

Following his builds and gaining an insight into how Mike approaches his builds and how he adds the additional details is worth the trouble. He regularly publishes his 1/72 builds in Scale Aviation Modeller International (SAMI). A number of the model photos in the link hrtpaul posted are familiar given the previous articles of Mike's I've read.

Mike's a master !
