Great article Damo, thanks for posting....I think history has not been kind to the poor old DC-10, she was a much better aircraft than she was given credit for being. Yeah she had a few prangs in her time, but then so did the other wide-body jets of her era.
Here is a DC-10, (and her younger, bigger sister the MD-11), that never was, although she came pretty close, but was pipped by the 747 SP.

Actually I don't think the new style scheme on the MD11 looks very good at all, just doesn't suit the mid engine style, probably why they never got them :D

yeah....it does look a little awkward.
Sort of like the DC-10 in the British Airways Landor scheme, that number 2 engine area just didn't look quiet right.

I think the whole nacelle should be red, that would have fixed it a little
