I should know this ...

Postby F-27pax » Sun Dec 09, 2018 5:13 pm

I should know this, but if I ever knew I've forgotten. Which engines did the TAA A#00s fly with. Any recommendations for replacement engines? By the way, having decided to make the TAA B4 version I find myself with a surplus F-Rsin Plastic A.300-600. Does anyone want one, at a reasonable price?

Do You mean GE (CF-6)? Or what version of GE CF-6 (-50C2)? I don't know if anyone can confirm but when you look at some of the latter photos in Qantas service the Cowlings look a bit different (painted obviously! But also the shape looks more "modern") to the original bare metal (Rohr?) Cowlings?

And yes I'd be interested in the -600.

Oh and I was just going to tart up the kit engines on the A300B I'm doing so haven't considered any replacement engines.

Same with the Nose too by the way seems not too much wrong with it - it's the Revell A310 and A330/340 that's way off.

Which kit are you using for the A300 B4 build Leigh?

Good point - I just assumed the Airfix kit.

TAA/Australian Airlines/QANTAS A300s had General Electric CF6-50C2 engines, which is what most B2/B4 operators chose.

The 1/144 Airfix kit has the earlier General Electric CF6-50A, so only minor contouring differences there.

The 1/200 Hasegawa kit has the correct GE version.

Thanks for your comments gentlemen, I have three Airfix kits and I'm now thinking I'll make them straight from the box, probably also VH-TAA in TAA, Bird of Paradise and QF colours. I see also that Hawkeye offer some Compass decals for the A.300-600 so I might make one of them too. That should keep me quiet for a while.

Yep, I designed those for the BraZ conversion for the Revell Beluga, but they should work for the F-Rsin Plastic kit as well, no worries!

Hmmm, I have that BraZ conversion kit too. It might be easier to get a Beluga kit from somewhere and make a -600 that way than to try making the F-Rsin kit (I'm still deeply scarred by my experience with their F-28s).

You should have enough Revell parts from the Beluga in the F-Rsin kit to use with the BraZ conversion to make a -600 without hunting around for a separate Beluga kit.
