F-rsin plastic F-28

I gave in to temptation and bought the two F-Rsin plastic 1/144 F-28s. If things go according to plan one will be a MMA -1000 and the other an Airlines of WA -4000. That is some way off yet, however.

I have an Authentic Airliners F-28-4000 and the F-Rsin kit compares favourably with it. The resin kit is slightly better but there is a hell of a lot of difference between paying $30 for a kit and paying $70, so the F-Rsin kit is preferable from that point of view alone.

The kit goes together as well as we've come to expect from F-rsin, which means there is a fair amount of tidying up and filling and sanding to do. But far from impossible.

I have a question for those who might know about this kind of thing. What colour would you use for the light grey on F-28s? The kit just says 'light grey' and the Hawkeye decals instructions says FS16640. However, I'm not convinced, Light Gull Grey is often given as the appropriate colour for a lot of airliners and that usually ain't so. Any suggestions?

More progress as it comes to hand.

Photos of VH-FKA on Aussie Airliners, suggest the lower fuselage and the wings were the same colour, I like you thing gull grey is a bit too dark, but those photos do seem to be a bit darker than I would have expected, maybe something slightly darker than Boeing grey

That sounds like a good plan to me Graeme. Thanks

Here we are on a bit. I've found that a coat of metallic lacquer shows up all the little blemishes and faults better than anything else, and so it is with this model. You might call this the first draft because there is going to be a lot of little fiddly business necessary to make this presentable. Spending $70 on a F-28 kit was not sounding so bad last night while battling with this one.

Still, it's starting to look something like a F-28

It's the thrill of getting it to come out a great finish knowing you have achieved the best result

Well that's what I keep telling myself, and I also have both of the AA kits as well as these, and an even rarer Gatwick Miniatures one
Been emailing Nick Webb at Classic Airliners to redo the Air Niugini one he once did, but so far he has released 10 other useless ones, but not that one, need to apply the thumbscrews

I am hanging out for someone to do the Australian DoT/CAA aircraft. They always looked very smart.

Not only do those DofA F-28s look very nice, I flew in them a couple of times from Canberra to Melbourne to do the research for my Honours thesis. Very comfortable seats in comparison to your standard airline seats. I can't recall now whether they were -1000s or -4000s. On my list of things to do if I ever become competent enough to make my own decals.

Yep, Pretty sure they were all 1000's, and yes I would like to one of those DofA ones as well and the later DoT ones aren't bad either, we need Scotty to get his finger out

Graeme! We in the Department were never to call the Department of Aviation DoA because that was short for 'Dead on Arrival'. It always had to be DofA. You have been warned.

Sorry about that Leigh, we in the airlines didn't give a ....
Still wouldn't mind doing one in that scheme though
Nick Webb tells me my Air Niugini one should be up this week.

reminds me of the days when the National Bank of Australasia became National Australia Bank, and a mate who worked there said all the staff we constantly reminded not to call it NAB, more in line with bank robberies and such, but with what is coming out of the Royal Commission, probably more the other way around these days.
