Seeing Ray's Huey got me thinking, how many choppers have I had / built?
When in the RAAF (a long long time ago) I built the Revell 1/24 Huey since then I have only finished a Firebombing squirrel, binned, uncompleted a, Seaking, have a long term shelf of doomer Revell Sea king and in the stash have a 1/48 Seaknight and Hasegawa RN rescue Seaking and a 1/72 Revell twin huey thingie
The thing is I don't like building helicopters I think the issue for me is too many fiddly bits that never seem to amount to any progress , put the wings and tail on a fixed wing and the model looks like a plane and provides some drive to finish it off, with a chopper I just don't get the same motivation, I guess interior detail is a big thing with helicopters because of the large glass areas... because I hate that element of modelling it must be another reason why I can't hack them. Why then do I buy the bloody things you ask?

I want a RN rescue HAR 5 because I saw one when on Striding Edge in the UK, I bought a 1/72 Revell kit and got the appropriate decals, I started building choked and stopped THEN I saw a 1/48 Hasegawa kit of the HAR 5 at a good price and got that, nail in coffin for the 1/72 er. The twin Huey thingie was going to be a model of an Indonesian AF example I saw in Halim, I have opened the box a few times saw all those small pieces and put it away. The Seaknight I bought because I was on a "thing" where I was going to model any aircraft I had flown in... opened the box and promptly lost interest! The Hasegawa kit I must definitely build...one day.. I want it but it is going to take a huge strength of will to complete it

anyone else choke on choppers?

I just am weirded out by "fling wings". Is it flying, or is it just beating the air into submission? I know they are amazing aircraft - it's just having the wings rotate and being held in place by one bolt that just "weirds" me out! They do make for some great models though. Maybe one day I'll build a Sea King or a Wessex - that's after the 30+ years of kits I currently have and the appalling current build rate of mine! :(

I must admit to not having built too many choppers. I do however have a 1:72 NASA Chinook, Sea King, Iroquois, and Cobra to build, as well as a 1:48 Royal Flight Wessex, Presidential VH-60 and VH-71 waiting in the stash.

While I have finished a few, I do get bogged down with the whirly parts and masking all the clear parts and openings when painting, which drags the builds out.

Some past completions.

I've got a few choppers to build for my Falklands theme (Wessex x 2, Sea King x 3, UH-1D x 2, Chinook x 2) as well as a 1/35 Magnum P.I. MD500 but I'm yet to build one and I don't think there's any particular reason for that. It's just how it is I guess :| :| :| :|
