GB.....just putting it out there

Hi guys,
While I am not a great fan of Group Builds on model sites, it has not escaped my notice that these do tend to get some attention and participation on other sites. To that end, (and in addition to the very informal and open-ended NASA and Falklands GBs currently underway on this site), I was thinking maybe we should have our first formalised A/CAM Group Build. This being the case I am seeking membership input on some suggested potential GB subjects, and how we should best administer it.
I would like to get the ball rolling by suggesting the following as a potential GB subject:
History Makers: Individual Aircraft Involved In Significant Historical Events.
This could be any aircraft that was central to or even indirectly involved in a significant historical or otherwise note-worthy event. Examples could include but are not limited to:
- The Air Force One VC-137 (707) that carried President Kennedy to/from Dallas, and hosted the swearing in of a President on that fateful day.
- Any one of the aircraft that was involved in the history-changing and tragic 9/11 attacks.
- The Pan Am 747 lost over Lockerbie.
- Amelia Earhart's aircraft
- The missing Malaysian 777
- The KLM/Pan Am 747s involved in the Canary Islands ground collision (world's worst air accident)
- The Qantas A380 involved in the infamous QF32 incident
- The Air New Zealand DC-10 lost on Mt Erabus
As can be seen the list is endless, and in addition to being an accurate historical record of events, in many cases, this GB could be a fitting, silent, and respectful tribute (where relevant and appropriate), without being morbid, insensitive, or flipant.
So....over to you guys for your thoughts.

Sounds like a good idea Ray,

I have decals coming for Cactus 1549, which I would think would fit the GB and the incident (accident) had a good outcome.

I had also thought about building the QF32 jet after reading Mr 'Ds book

Civil War - Civil aircraft in military service.

Airport Ink - Airliners in special paint schemes.

Leaving on a Jet Plane - A civil aircraft or airliner you have personally flown in.

Juiced Up - Tankers, refuelers or firefighters as long as they're full of liquids.

The Other Half - Business jets, charter or personal aircraft of the rich and famous.

Airplane Repo - Aircraft of airlines now defunct.

If this is too hard, how about Col. Rob Olds F-4C from Operation Bolo? That was a pretty major historical event over Nth Vietnam.

Good one Ray! My next build after the 262 will be a F-104N flown by NASA test pilot Joe Walker as a tribute to this incredible test pilot. This will also be good for the unofficial NASA GB! :D
