1:32 A-4 refurb to "civvie" bird

Postby tor lives » Sun Apr 17, 2016 4:11 pm

Hi folks,
Well I have just taken delivery of a 1:32 A-4 Skyhawk that is surplus to requirement from the Knotty collection, (and thanks very much to you Knotty for your generosity mate). She has been in long-term storage for quiet some time up in Knotty's roof " aircraft storage facility".

I intend to turn her in to a Tracor/BAE Flight Systems civvie bird, (no surprises there I guess.....cause as we all know, military jets always look better in cool civvie colour schemes Paul :D ). Hopefully she will turn out looking something like this.

Does anyone by chance happen to have a spare set of 1:32 A-4 jugs???

Will you strip it completely, or give it a good sand?

Plenty of life in these little Scooters isn't there. Draken have been involved at Red Flag with their ex-RAN/RNZAF Scooters and hoping for a more permanent arrangement - very cool. These A-4Ks appear electronically like F-16s and operate at a fraction of the cost.

Unlike my usual process of complete strip back to bare plastic and a "from the ground up" rebuild, I think I will just sand this ol girl back and use the existing paint as the undercoat . Courtesy of an initial good quality build job by Knotty there is a lot I wanna preserve, (such as the cockpit). So no "ditching" into a full caustic soda bath for this ol girl.

Yeah Draken are showing the world what can be done with supposedly "clapped out, old Skyhawks, (Helen Clark's words.....long may they haunt her  ).
My only complaint, (and I know it's superficial), is that Draken haven't re-painted the ex-Kiwi A-4s in a really cool civvie scheme like the Tracor/BAe Flight Systems colours. Come on Draken, those military colours are just so friggen boring :D .
