With the news that Revell will be re-releasing its old 727-100 kit this year, I decided to pull mine out (the kit, I mean...) and take a look at it. I bought this kit from our fearless leader a few years back, but it's remained firmly entrenched in the stash ever since. Last night, while watching a movie, I found myself sanding all the rivets off the fuselage, and thinking about what I could do with it - scratch-built wheel bays being the first thing that came to mind. So, before I get ahead of myself, does anybody have, or can direct me to, some decent references for these areas on a 727? Might even build it in conjunction with the Airfix kit I have, and go the two-for-one deal.

Rays - thanks kindly, gents! So the inner gear doors were closed except for extension and retraction, yeah? That will simplify things enormously. On the other hand, so would building it wheels-up...

Yep......those inner doors remain closed except for extension/retraction of the main gear. Same as the 707, 757, 767 etc

You can clearly see the inner doors close back up after the legs lock down!

@1:28 it's only the forward 2 bogies that are extending. I doubt they could do all 4 (retract or extend) at the same time due to the sheer pump volume output that would be required from the hydraulic rig. Interesting to see they're doing retracts outside on such a big plane as well

Thanks for your input, fellas. Given how little can really be seen, I'm wondering now whether it's worth the bother. Perhaps even a wheels-up display might be best. Hmm...

There is mention in the blurb under the video that states the Hydraulic cart used does not have the grunt to do all 4 bogies at the same time.

'Testing the retraction after changing all landing gears. Testing one or two at time, because the ground pneumatic* doesn't supplies enough power to move all gears together (the ADP's are hard at work).' *I expect he means 'hydraulic'
