Anyone else have the 1/48 Concorde form Hph in their stash yet?

Am looking for ideas on how to display it. In flight or parked.

Can there be anything more graceful or stunningly beautiful than a Concorde in flight in her element, (ie: moving at Mach 2, at FL650, with visor up). It transcends aviation.....it is in fact poetry in motion!!!
My vote.....build her in flight :D

That things costs, like, about 80 grand, and weighs, like, about 1500 kilos! And takes up the space of 4 1:1 scale 747s! No way!

Well, I just pulled the trigger on $738, so its my my most expensive model ever.... and its not 1/32!

Will do a WIP, as it will be hitting the bench as soon as it arrives.

Ideas on how to display it would be appreciated.

Wow Eric. I'm really looking forward to seeing here your progress in putting this kit together. The price is steep but what really put me off buying one was the size of the thing. I made the Heller/Airfix Concorde kit and, while it is magnificent, it is also BIG enough for me.

While I agree with Ray that the Concorde was designed to fly high and fast, I think they looked better on the ground. With the wheels down and the visor retracted they look more powerful and like an airliner designed to carry folks, rather than a modern work of art. To my eye - but perhaps not to Ray, I reckon that that long stalky undercarriage only enhances the elegance of the airframe/

Thanks for the input guys, and keep them coming.

I am thinking British Airways scheme and either in flight cruise configuration, in flight immediately prior to landing or on the ground. It will fit nicely on top of my display cabinet in the in flight config. but on the ground might lose its effect being up so high.... Oh the quandry!

Either way, if everything goes according to plan, the airliners category might need lots of room at expo next year!

My suggestion for a potential colour scheme:

You bloody legend Capt Eric! This will be the build of the Century! Personally, I'd go for a on the ground stance. The Concorde gear is incredible - super high performance in it's own right.

Pic's of a pre-production Concorde at Duxford below. The fuselage was full of instrumentation to monitoring and data-logging purposes. This was the aircraft used for icing tests. Very difficult to photograph as it's so big and the lighting at Duxford is not good (winter dullness factor as well).

If you're super brave, how about a dramatic t/o pose with the Concorde rearing up on it's main gear with engines in full reheat! Machine out of some clear perspex cones to place in the exhaust nozzles - a challenge would be to have them lit using LED's and perhaps make them in sections so when lit the "shock diamonds" will appear! How cool would this look - very dramatic and dynamic! It would be a contender for Expo "Best of Show"! Now how is that for a challenge is inspiration for this build! How can you resist this challenge! :D

Go for it Capt! Can't wait to see you start this project!
