Expo Purchases

Had a great time at Expo this year, and it was great to catch up with many of you - and put faces to names! I only bought 3 kits though, two of which were civvies. I've got a couple of questions about them, however.

First up is Zvezda's Il-86:

The decals in this kit look terrible! So my first question is easy: what are my options for replacing them?

Next up is a bit of an impulse purchase that I'm already regretting, but c'est la vie, eh? The old Otaki Do-X in a Matchbox box:

Decals here aren't great either, but there aren't many, and I'm not especially bothered about them. The real issue is that most of the props (12 of them!) are broken. Any hopes of finding some replacements? Otherwise, I might have to do it in-flight, and use clear discs to simulate spinning props. I don't normally like that look though.

All answers on the back of a well-crafted forum post, please! They'll all be gratefully accepted.

Kev

I've got a feeling the Do-X may be currently under the Revell label...you may be able to source replacements from there.

This year, I only ended up with 8 kits, as opposed to the 15 or so from previous years.
A late - or early - birthday present from Adam was the Amodel 1/72 Yak 52. Thinking about doing the RE Yak, since I've already done the declas, but might take a trip to Kyneton and get some reference photos of one of the Yaks there..
Also making the trip home with me was an Artiplast 1/50 Avro 504K, an AZ 1/48 Zlin Z-50, a Modelcraft 1/48 Norseman, a Rare Plane 1/72 Grumman Guardian, a Welsh Models 1/72 DC-9, and a couple of Airfix 1/72 kits - another BN Islander (brings the total in my stash to 9), and a Basset 206.
A 1/35 Scud with launcher, and a Gundam figure followed my son home.

G'day Kev, and good to see ya getting into the airliners :D
If you got to these guys and type IL-86 into their search engine, you will find several after-market options for your kit

Alternatively, when Revell re-released this Zvezda kit they did so with a simply superb and high-quality decal sheet featuring four different carriers:

Perhaps if you contact Revell you could get a copy of this decal sheet.

PS: great catching up over the Expo weekend.

Thanks Ray. I've done a few airliners in my time, so they're not completely new to me! I'm hoping to get some more Aeroflot stickers if I can, since I reckon they look pretty cool. I'll check out what Two-Six has to offer. I've got a couple of their other sheets, but have yet to use any of them.

Thanks again!

Kev

I'm so ancient that I have the Dornier X in the original Otaki boxing. One of these days ...

I managed to pick of three kits at the Swap and Sell. An A.320, an A.321 and a DC-4, all 1/144. They were going for $10 each so I couldn't let them pass. I now have 7 A.320s and 2 A.321s. Is that too many?

Well, if it helps even things out, I have only one Italeri (Italaerei!) Caproni Ca.311.
