I wasn't telling them how to do their job, I was explaining why I am correct. As for hard, nah. Running model competitions is only hard if you're incompetent.

Ace
Weather you think you are correct or not is interesting but ultimately subjective and, quiet frankly, irrelevant.
I would agree that competence is in direct proportion to a well-run model competition. This being the case Model Expo sets the bench mark...they do a great job and put on an outstanding event!!!
Brad, you clearly have personal issues and grievances with the Model Expo guys mate....please deal with them off my site.

I don't see any grievance in my posts. I'm merely wondering why there can't be a civil aircraft category this year when it would clearly be a hit.

I've already said that I agree you should check to see if there is adequate interest. Stevie Wonder could see there is. You should make sure that the competition can accommodate another category, clearly no problems there. They have ACAM as a sponsor, a base of models already built and people who are interested in the subject. What more could you possibly need and what more could we as a group actually do? If they wanted proof that there are models built, we could always email them the pictures. Introducing new categories is always a risk, but at some stage if you want to, you gotta just suck it and see.

As mentioned on that other modeling site, I think they should just go for it. I would have no problems if they did and said to us all "Ok, we're going to put in the new category, but if there isn't at least 10 models in it, we won't continue it". If you can fault my logic on that, please try, but trust me, there is nothing about running a model show that I don't understand.

Ace,
I hear what you are saying mate but, apart from the fact that Model Expo 2014 is literally weeks away, (and therefore introducing a new category at this late stage for this year is simply not organisationally/logistically possible), you are asking these guys to take a blind leap of faith by introducing a new category based upon nothing more than our say so. Get real mate!!!....we have got to prove that any new Civil Aircraft category is viable by having "models-on-ground". That is what the A/CAM display this year is designed to demonstrate. If we can prove to the Model Expo guys that there is enough interest for this new category, (by virtue of a stacked A/CAM display table), then we will be in a far better position to formally request that the new category be negotiated and established as soon as possible. We will achieve far more by working with the Model Expo guys Brad, as opposed to working against them.

We have 50 days, that's ample time. As I said, the computer system makes it very easy to add or delete categories as needed. You'd then need to update the website, update the scrutineers guide books, make up a table label, a box for references and 3 trophies. Getting 3 trophies extra would be at most a couple of days if the trophies are already done. You'd also need to factor the category into the table lay out. Too easy.

No one is asking anyone to take an Indiana Jones leap of faith from the lions head. We would have asked for a new category based on a new model site, immense interest, a new sponsor and models already built. Why don't we all post our complete civil aircraft in this thread as proof. Rather than asking for a leap of faith, you are asking for the model show to trust in those people who are long term supporters and who ultimately, the model show depends upon to exist; Model Expo needs modellers more than modellers need Model Expo. That my friend is not faith, but a partnership between those who organise and those who attend.

As said....this site will work within the framework as laid down by the Model Expo Committee . Their due process will be honoured and followed. I think we are done here Brad.

I'll add my 2 cents worth to this discussion and any and all involved in the process of getting our proposed "Civvy light" category can pitch in and add or correct my comments. Basically, we all collectively dropped the ball. Paul is being a bit hard on himself I think. Feeding the family does rate at the very top on ones priorities, so mate, there's nothing to answer for. Any one of us could have picked up the baton when you advised us of your employment issues. All the crap at AMI I think did wrong foot a few of us to some degree as well. Not easy to get enthused with modelling issues with all that B/S going down at that time.

At a Axis Eagles meeting earlier this year, I had a chat to Rene to find out what was required to get the new civvy category launched. Rene did say it's no major issue at all, but we need to make a formal request to the Expo committee. We missed the boat this year, as Expo had "frozen the design" this year some time ago with all the "PR" stuff which specifies all the categories. Expo can't amend these doc's, just for one new category so late in the day. This to me all sounds very reasonable and fair enough. We just need to formally put our request forward to the Expo committee in plenty of time prior to Expo 2015 - I'm thinking post Expo later this year.

Via the A/CAM stand, we now have the perfect opportunity to display our wares, thus expressing our keen interest in getting this "Civvy - light" category up. This has been in discussion amongst a few of us for some time and I'm thinking the ramp space on Ray's table will be at a premium! This is giving all of us time to properly prepare, to be able to put our best foot forward for a hopeful "Civvy light" launch in 2015. Expo committee members will be able to gauge our keen interest this year by viewing our models on the A/CAM table and perhaps in direct discussion around this table.

It wouldn't matter if those documents didn't list the civil category, if it was introduced at a late stage your word of mouth through websites, friends and model clubs would reach your repeat and serious competitors. PR is mainly for general public because I'm tell you now, that barely anyone will turn over a flyer and read the back of it with rules or categories...been there, done that lol.
