Went through the stash last night and found some candidates:

HS-125
Cessna C337
King Air B350 (Air services Australia)
DH Dragon
DHC Beaver
DHC Otter
DHC Twin Otter
Cherokee
A couple of Piper Cubs? from a 1/87 Railroad layout detail set (includes a Hangar!)

Would a C-130H in Saudia markings work or would that be an Airliner?

Realistically I would be only attempting to enter a couple of these. See how the mojo goes between now and Expo.

If this is the C-130 you mean Ray then I reckon it's be ok as it's a freighter, but not derived from an airliner as such. It's basically a military aircraft in a civvie scheme.

Actually, I think a Herc in Saudia, (or Delta, as seen on our FB page), colours could go in either category. I reckon it would depend on what the individual builder wanted.

Same scheme, standard fuselage version though.

Just a reminder to all entering the competition to familiarise yourselves with the competition rules and criteria. Not trying to get you all to suck eggs, more a heads up for those who haven't entered the comp before.
One of the big failings in competition is lack of reference material. The judges don't want volumes of references - just clear, concise and to the point references.
If building "out of box", pretty well just the instructions are required. If modified with after-market parts, custom paint schemes and decals, scratch built bits and bods, etc, then some short notes on what was done and why need to be added - i.e:

Any after market parts (resin, etched metal, etc)
Custom paint schemes and decals
Any scratch building
Reference photos of the actual aeroplane - a picture tells a thousand words.

Progress photos can help "sell" the effort you've put into your project to the judges. Do what you can to get this message across as efficiently as possible - short, concise and to the point. I've been told that judges will not waist their time looking at reams and reams of reference documentation in inch thick binders that some modellers put together - they simply have way too many models to judge. Put yourself in the judges shoes - what would you like to see to assist in judging your work? Here's the link to the Model Expo handbook if you have not seen it.

Good luck and happy Expo!

Cheers

Would they be suitable for the category? i went looking for the thread about the new category but could not find it.

Briefly, what the new class encompasses
• Executive/Business jets
• General Aviation types
• Former Military types in civil/commercial use, (including air racers, fire-bombers, and other specialist civilian agency use).
• Civil/Commercial Flying Boats/Sea Planes/Amphibians
• Civil/Commercial Airships
• Civil/Commercial Spacecraft
• Sports/Recreation Aircraft, (including gliders, hang gliders, para-gliders, gyro-copters, hot air balloons’ micro-lights, home-builds, purpose-built air racers, purpose-built aerobatic types)
• Civil/Commercial UAVs
• Agricultural types

But NOT Airliners and their derivatives, for which there is another class and NOT civil helicopters for which there is another class.

Of course there are going to be grey areas and crossovers - if there's a "dispute" we go with what the entrant wants, within reason. If there's a silly dispute we would like to take a mallet to the model and the modeller but, being nice people, we don't.

Thanks Ed, exactly what I was after...

I checked the Expo website but could not find and definition of the categories. Is there one online?
