Yeh tis a bit quiet around here. Perhaps everyone is building a model for next years model expo display, which reminds me, I need to do something for it.

IPMS Swap and sell August 20th as well for all of us in Melbourne. I can't remember the address but it's directly opposite Ashburton Park on High St.

Sorry been reading, but not replying much, I think that is called lurking mode isn't it?
I probably should post up my current Mirage builds here, as although I want to finish off some airliners the Mirages are what I'm into at the moment.

I am on the verge of giving up trying to attract new members to the forum.
Most are only interested in being on the FB page, and that's OK......whatever

Well limit the facebook page for admin posts only and make those posts a bit of a teaser to point back to the website. Facebook is free, if people who are on facebook don't come over here then it's no loss either way. You will get more members over if you restrict the FB page.

Have you established mutual links with other modelling websites?

Have you gotten ACAM into the links sections in modelling or aviation magazines? Buy a few from the newsagent and see if they have a links section, if they do email the editor.

Do you hand out ACAM stuff at shows? Every person who looks at your display at whatever model show should have you shoving a business card or pamphlet in their bags with the links to ACAM on it.

Have members tried a little sneaky advertising of ACAM on other websites? You know, post a completed model and in the text just casually mention it was built for a "Group Build over on...." or "For a display over on....".

Have any members written any article for Frank at Modelart? Some airliners or civil aircraft, maybe in a nice air racing or eye catching scheme and mention ACAM in the text.

By your own admission, your email address on the contact page doesn't work. How many questions and members has that missed?

Front page has little to keep people coming back. The gallery is empty, but it needs to be much better than it was previously as it wasn't good either for navigating or viewing.

No reviews on the reviews section. You need some material to keep people coming back or clicking on the forum. Kev does this well at LSP, he posts pictures of peoples completed builds in the whats new then links back to the forum.

Your main problem is that Facebook page though. You're breaking the first rule of business; never compete against yourself.

All duly noted Brad, and may I say you have made some very constructive and well-considerrd suggestions that warrent further consideration. What has effectively killed the site though was the extended period of technical unreliability, this had a devastating effect and, I am sure, deterred many potential new members.
I will be shutting down most of the site except for the Forums in the near future. After all, it is only the Forums that are being used now anyway, by the small group of regulars.

Honestly Ray, if you're going to do that, then you might as well just have the free Facebook page. It costs nothing, allows posts and frees up funds for other things. That said, I think it would be a waste to abandon the whole site due to the work that was put into it to save it without giving it a decent crack.

Views acknowledged and most appreciated and respected Brad. You have given me some good stuff to think about.
I really appreciate this kind of objective, well considered, insightful, and intelligent contribution.....thank you.

From Brad -

"Well limit the Facebook page for admin posts only and make those posts a bit of a teaser to point back to the website. Facebook is free, if people who are on Facebook don't come over here then it's no loss either way. You will get more members over if you restrict the FB page."

Totally agreed and I've said this all along. LSP does this and I think this is a good idea. The huge advantage with a website is having dedicated topics - all posts don't get buried under others. This fact needs to be sold I think to prospective members. FB page is then used to "sell" your website, not compete with it. As Kev at LSP does, you or other FB admin's can make posts like "Joe Bloggs did amazing work on his scratch built 1/16 scale An-225 today....yadda yadda" with a link to the website.
