Yeh but that's ages away. Does a NASA aircraft count as a military aircraft in civil use?

Depends on the type, but generally speaking, yes.
Dont forget.....NASA is a civilian agency.
I am sure that there will be several NASA aircraft in next year's display line up. I know Knotty has a T-38 and S-3 ready to go.

Nahhhh cause she never surrendered her USAF tail number and markings, where as most other former military NASA types took up the NASA colour scheme and civil regos.

Is there any chance of getting a list together so we know what's out there that we can build. I'm struggling to think of others as I assume that just ex warbird aircraft with a civil registration is not the idea, the aircraft must be in some type of official use, not just some rich guys play thing.

I'd hazard a guess that being a rich guy's play thing counts *as long* as it wears a civvie scheme.
Pretending to do it TAC style with the big boys since 1987
Also, we don't need no steenkin' VLATs!

Ex-military aircraft can be found in all types of civilian use including:
- Fire Bombers
- Non-military Government agencies (including NASA/NACA, FAA, US Dep of Commerce, Air America, DEA, Customs, Dep of Homeland Security etc )
- Air Racers
- Emergency Services
- Civilian Test Pilot Schools
- Civilian Technical Training Schools
- Civilian Aerobatic Teams
- Warbirds
- Airlines (Qantas with Liberators and Catalinas, TWA with B-17s, Buffalo with C-46s, Alitalia with Macchi MB326s, every airline with C-47s etc)
- Aircraft Manufacturers (eg: Boeing F-86 and T-38 chase planes, Demonstrators etc)
- Specialist Operators (Draken International, Discovery Air, Omega, Tracor Flight Systems etc)
- Privately-owned (Thunder City, Temora, rich guy play things etc)

Heaps to choose from :D .

I thought the idea of the NASA group build was to have something for the table next year. I too got excited. oh well. Maybe the group build should be the subject of next years table display.
You don’t concentrate on risks. You concentrate on results. No risk is too great to prevent the necessary job from getting done- Chuck Yeager.
