Braz 1/144 Tu-114 conversions

Postby DDGboy » Thu Dec 13, 2018 7:31 pm

Intended for the Trumpeter Bear H or J kits, does anyone know if they will work with the Revell Bear D?

TIA, Jamie

I suppose the other alternative is to see if there is a comparative Review of the Kits anywhere that might give you a hint as to their interoperability with respect to the BraZ conversion?

How does that compare with the Revell Kit?

The alternative is to email Ivo at Braz and ask him if he knows of anyone who may have done it

Thanks guys, a bit of digging shows that it may well be doable, as the Braz resin fuselage has cutouts on the underside matched (sort of!) to the Trumpeter wing joins -

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/8JgAAOSw ... -l1600.jpg

The Revell Bear kit has the fuselage split top and bottom, not horizontally, and the lower wing is continuous across the join, meaning the centre section can be cut to match the resin, and the upper wings have standard tabs which can simply be trimmed to match-

https://www.scalemodellingnow.com/hnair ... -tu95-bear

A similar approach pre-Trumpeter kits. The conversion includes a (strengthened) nose gear leg and the extended flaps - http://www.hyperscale.com/galleries/2002/tu114jt_1.htm

I've bit the bullet and purchased the conversion, but at my building rate it'll be finally completed by one of my distant relatives in their settlement on Mars!

Tell them that (that it's doable) but don't leave them any hints as if it turns out it's not doable when they strike trouble with it they'll believe you were Earth's greatest Modeller because they believe that you could do it.

Hmmm.... I am curious as well. I picked one of those Bears up recently. I'll either do a completely fictional "what if" plane with it and turn it into an airliner with whatever stuff I have on hand... OR... go all-in and convert it to a proper Tu-114. It all depends, of course...
