Happy days - my Bronco arrived!

Postby Adam the Akrodude » Fri Aug 21, 2015 5:28 pm

Don't ya love it when that special parcel arrives - the one you've been waiting ages! Well, mine turned up today from the Land of the rising Sun, my Kittyhawk 1/32 NA OV-10A Bronco. Probably my main military aviation reading interest is the Vietnam War. I wasn't initially a fan of the Bronco, then the more I read about the aeroplane and the aircrews, the more I became in total awe of the exploits of this amazing aeroplane and it's crews.
Mine will probably be a 20th TASS bird based at Da Nang used for the ultra-secret and super dangerous "Prairie Fire" missions in support of the SOG teams operating in Laos.

Anyone interested in OV-10 Bronco FAC missions in Vietnam should read Da Nang Diary by Tom Yaborough, a one time Bronco "Prairie Fire" pilot. Excellent read!

I'll do a full report on this kit shortly. First look at it is mind-blowing! It looks an absolute cracker of a kit!

A bit of inspiration for you, Adam! Here's Brian's build of a pre-production kit on LSP:

I thought we had a review of this kit too, but it seems we only have one of the D kit. I can post a link if it's still of interest to anyone.

Looking forward to your build, mate!

Cheers Kev. I've followed this build and it will be a great source for help and inspiration when I start - probably some time next year after the F-104N, A-26A, T-28D.

I'll do a kit review when I get the time.

Here's a link to a cool vid I found on Bronco's in Nam/Laos.

Looks like a very interesting kit but, just like the A-26, can I convince you???

First one has to be a USAF bird - a "Prairie Fire" FAC. I just have to "tell the story" of the super brave pilots and observers (usually US Army SOG guys in the back seat) that flew these secret missions deep into Laos.

I would love to build a second fire spotter Bronco, as I would also love to build a second A-26 fire bomber down the track. So many potential builds - so little time - ARGH! :?
