This is the next Argy plane om the bench. This is the new tool Airfix A-4 Skyhawk and so far it's really nice. I'm using an Eduard PE set for the first time an so far it's looking ok. Other aftermarket stuff that will be used is a Hasegawa TER with 3 x 500lb bombs and Xtradecal decals. The scariest thing is replacing the flaps with PE. Hopefully it'll look like this Image

This is where I'm up to so far :)

You realize Paul that this demonstrates you are not the "lazy" modeller you claim to be.
That cockpit tub and flap preparation is exceptional!!!

The PE in the pit was easier than I thought. I've noticed I need to file the attach points a little better than I have. The flaps have me nervous though :? :? :?

Just a quick update. Not much progress on this though I have chickened out with the PE flaps and stuck the original plastic ones back on. Decided I'm not THAT confident to tackle them just yet :)

A bit of progress on the Skyhawk. This is has been primed and under the slats have been painted red. According to the decal instructions there are some turquoise blue ID stripes on the wings and tail. I didn't have any turquoise blue so in collaboration with my little man, we made our own. It's probably not the correct shade for the rivet counters but who cares? I'm happy with the colour and it's coming together slowly :)

Good work so far Paul. I know what you mean about PE. I take PE stuff very slowly and mostly it turns out ok but I haven't tried anything like folding flaps as yet.

Regards,
RHB.

Looking the goods there Paul. Liking the work you did on the cockpit with the "bling" .

Cheers

Ta mate. Another quick update on this. The decal sheet calls for 'light grey' for the undersides. Very helpful that getting the right colour. Lucky the right colours for these Argy A-4's is near impossible to find a definitive answer for. I still have some references packed away somewhere in the shed so I just went with Tamiya fine grey primer and it looks ok to me. The upper surfaces are just as much a pain in the arse as all the colour pics of these A-4's show a different colour of the same scheme. As far as I can tell an off white is a good colour. Hmmmm off white you say? White mixed with grey, brown or yellow? In the end I used a couple of browns and neutral grey until it looked right to me. I sprayed it on and it came up pretty well I reckon. For the darker colour I'm gonna use Gunze olive drab (2) which will look ok I think. Tomorrow I might paint the black radome and anti glare panel. Then hopefully I'll mask it up for the olive drab Thursday then unmask it Friday. That'll be it as I'm back to TSV Sunday :(
