RAAF 75 Squadron F/A-18A Hornet A21-29
Wing Commander Ross J "Foxy" Fox's F/A-18A Hornet featuring the top hat and cane on the the tail as seen in 1990, shortly before his death in a training accident. Fox was flying another Hornet at the time and as fate would have it, the plane he had a mid air collision in was this one, flown by another pilot.

Lifecolour paints.

Things to improve on in the future;
-I still need to work on my seams and filling gaps. Whilst Im getting better at it, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
-Painting and decal placement. Though I tried to use as many references as I could find, I still missed some paint scheme details like the area for the serial number and the Top hat and cane decal should be higher and on a bit more of an angle. I need to pay more attention to photo references, instead of the decal placement sheets. I know better.

Thanks to everyone who provided input and feed back, especially A2 who donated a great set of drop tanks.

While the kit is a fun build and has everything you need to do a basic hornet, it is lacking in some detail in the way of panel lines and access doors. The intakes are very shallow and go no where in a very short distance, which shows up as soon as you paint them white.
For the price I paid for the kit however, it was a bargain and looks great on the shelf.

Once again Troy....another master piece that I feel privileged to have featured on A/CAM, thanks for sharing with us.
I had the solemn task of crewing the RAAF 707 that carried many to Ross Fox's funeral following that fateful mid-air collision. It must be said that Ross Fox was one of the most well-regarded and highly-respected COs in the RAAF at the time....a great loss indeed. Your model is a fitting tribute to a great man and senior officer.
Troy...you really do produce some lovely models mate.

Cool. You need to convert to super glue for filling gaps. Makes things waaaaay easier.

Nice work Troy and a great tribute to those at the "sharp end" that protect our way of life. It highlights the day to day risk these aviators face. I too like building with some kind of story behind the subject - it's a great source of inspiration for the build. This also being the Revell/Monogram offering must have presented all sorts of challenges given the age of this kit - another well done for that challenge!
I've tried campaigning for some kind of recognition on this "degree of difficulty" in the build at Expo, but sadly failed to get my point across. It's a fact that some kits are way harder to put together and require way more work to get to look right and you have done a great job here.

Cheers

Adam
