Revell 1/32 El Salvadoran FG-1 Corsair.

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

Revell 1/32 El Salvadoran FG-1 Corsair.

The Revell kit, despite it's age, is pretty good. The fit is nice and it does include the option to fold the wings if you wish. Detail in the cockpit is a bit lacking, but you only see that if you look close enough! I think this makes number 9 for the year, going nicely so far.

The aircraft is one used in the 100 Hours, or more commonly known as the Soccer War between Honduras and El Salvador in 1969. It was the last air war fought with piston engined aircraft, Honduras flying Corsairs and El Salvador flying a mix of Mustangs and Corsairs. Surviving fighters on both sides continued to serve into the 1970's.

Very very nice.

Has that "last hurrah" air about it which you have captured well.

Nine in four months. Pretty good strike rate.

I've got one of these somewhere in the hope of doing an FAA one one day ... whenever ... possibly never ... probably never ...

There is a similarly good one over on Britmodeller but it was in the El Salvadran Air Force ...

You've done the old Revell kit justice Brad. A really nice build and paint job of an often forgotten fracas over a bag of wind.
For some reason (lost on me anyway) I like your work on the flap footholds, they really stand out. Top build mate.
