A couple U.S. Navy planes

Postby jayveedee » Tue Aug 23, 2016 6:44 am

I finished these in July and August of this year. The first is an AMT, ESCI mold, 1/72 F-14A
Tomcat with Top Gun decals for Maverick and Gooses' plane. The second is an AD-4 dark
sea blue Skyraider from the Korean War. I used Fujimi's 1/72 A-1H and back dated it to
an AD-4, decals are Euro Decals. I am currently working on a 1/72 Hasegawa F9F-2 Blue
Angels jet and a British F-4K Phantom II, 1/72 Fujimi kit for Yello Bird, FAA bird.---John

Nice work John,

Were the 'top Gun' decals included in the kit?

I have an old Italeri (Testors) boxing that included them, though the decals are in not a very good state. I managed to find some after market one on line. I might finish the build on day.

I like the blue finish on your Skyraider as well.

Thanks, the blue paint was Tamiya spray can TS-55 gloss dark blue, a lacquer fast drying paint.
The decals I got on e- Bay for I think $10.00, from China maybe? The kit decals were for VF-2
Wolfpack.---John

Ray, I have a couple of airliners to build, where do I get the new Revell 1/144 727? I've had the Northeast Yellow
Bird decals from Microscale forever. Also I just received the Revell 1/144 Embraer 195 and have no interest in
the kit decals, is there somewhere I can get Air Europa or some other aftermarket decals?---John

John,

That is the same aftermarket sheet I have for the Tomcat :D

I have not seen the B727 in our neck of the woods yet (Oz). I believe Graeme H has one that he got online (from the UK?). There are a few on EBay.

There are a couple of decal makers that have ERJ195 sheets, Nazca is one that comes to mind. Draw Decal also has some EJR sheets though only 170 and 190 at the moment (same for 8A Decs). Could be others, these are the only ones I have noticed.

Nice work on both of them mate. I have all the Blue Angels aircraft to build in 1/72. Just have to find an F9F-8 Cougar now. Now don't forget to put pics of that gorgeous F-4 Phantom up once it's done mate. Keep up the great work :)
