ICM Polikarpov I-5

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

ICM Polikarpov I-5

Another silver wings Soviet type. This little beauty was designed in the late 1920s when Polikarpov was in prison convicted of treason because the aircraft industry wsn't performing a quickly as Uncle Joe wanted it to. Tupolev was imprisoned at the same time as were many other russian designers. This particular I-5 is the personal mount of Ivan U. Pavlov when he was the commander of the VVS's Moscow Military District in the early 1930s. It's a nice little kit which does have a few idiosyncrasies but it went together fairly easily. It did suffer a heavy landing just before the pinting stage (the ice cream container it was in fell out of my hands onto the ground) hence the bent interplane struts.

Thank you Tor and Knotty. It had a few techniques that were experimental for me which I'll continue to use because they worked so well.

Spasibo Comrade!

Please forward all awards by the Party to:

The Glorious Workers Re-Educational Facility No. 437 (the one with the thin blankets, even thinner soup and rather big dogs!)
Oymyakon, Russia
USSR

Time is being spent at this wonderful facility for failure to meet Party production requirements and missing Model Expo Civvie category entry this year. Failure to fulfil Party requirements will not be tolerated and I now see the error of my ways!

Long live the Motherland!
