1/72 Frog DH Hornet

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

I've always had a soft spot for the Hornet and Sea Hornet. They were the natural next step in de Havilland's line of beautiful wooden wonders. Those beautifully close cowled Merlins (from what I've read, also the most powerful standard version of the Merlin, as in not modified for air racing) at from memory just over 2,000 hp at combat power or basically double what a Mk1 Spitfire or Hurricane Merlin produced but from the same capacity in 1940. Admittedly the boost was much higher and the rpm max. and compression were also a bit higher but what an engine.

Regards,
RHB.

Looks bloody good Paul.....goes without saying that I am happy with your choice of colour scheme :D . She just looks like a purpose-built Air Racer.

Was rather busy yesterday and I got a bit done on this whilst waiting for Dad's Sabre. I hadn't painted the tail properly so I had to do a bit of light sanding and then repainted the tail and lower fuse. Just got to paint the wheel wells and then I can slap some decals on it. And just to answer Graeme's question about where the 'Grosvenor House' decals will be located, due to the short nose I thought I might put them on the engine nacelles below the exhausts. What do you guys reckon?

Dammit. Found I need a bit more red paint on the nacelles yesterday so I'll smash that on today. I wanna get this one done before Xmas if possible :?
