A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

The Centre of gravity problem seems to be solved now with the props and tail hook in place, Wal. :)

Slept in, did house work, went shopping then mades some real progress on the Gannet today. Well, see for yourselves.

Sunday morning I sprayed the clear coats so it would be ready for decaling tonight.

Then thought Id' better clean the bench up as it was well and truly due.

Then I sorted through all my paints and found a new way to store them. some 30 and 50Cal ammo boxes from Aussie Disposals.

The 50cal boxes are perfect for storing paint jars. They fit like it was made for them. In this case it holds all of my shades of green (I have way too many, they would not fit into a 30Cal box)

Like your Lichtenstein "WHAAM" picture! I have this as two posters, which I had up in the hall of my old house - ah, the single days! It didn't make the "short list" of suitable art when married sadly. One day I'll put it back up in the office man-cave. Hugely impressed how neat your modelling bench is - mine looks like a cyclone went through, followed by a earthquake and tsunami! I am admittedly a messy worker.

Oh and of course your Gannet is coming along very well sir!

Cheers

Thanks mate. The desk isn't always that clean, in fact an hour before that pic was taken, it did indeed look like a cyclone had hit it. The floor, benches and shelves behind me are still a mess, but I'm working through it. Bin nights tomorrow and its going to be full.

Decals are on and sealed under a final gloss coat. Pin wash and grease up the undercarriage Thursday night. Just need to decide if I leave her glossy or dull her down with a semi gloss. I've read the Navy kept them very clean, but I can't tell how shiny from 50 year old black and white photos. Consensus on Facebook seems to agree Semi gloss is the way to go.

Looking cool there mate! I agree on the semi-gloss. Full gloss is just too shiny - like car show shiny. Just general wear & tear scuffs paintwork and dulls it down - as does the effect of dust (and salt) on aeroplanes. You will get a better scale effect using semi-gloss. I use satin or buff up matt when going for a matt finish, as pure matt finish is just too dull unless say doing armour.

Cheers. Thanks guys. This kit has just fallen together and I am real happy with it.

Adam, I thought Satin was Semi gloss? I know I have Testors gloss, Satin and matt spray cans that I usually use for final seal coat.

A very nicely done Gannet Troy. I remember as a very wee youngster looking at one of these beasties on the HMAS Melbourne at an open day way back in the 50's.
From memory (very dim I admit) there wasn't much of a shine on it even though it was an open public display day. But to me it was huge and ugly but I loved it. Once again, a really nice bit of art you've done there.
Cheers. Wayne
