1/72 V.L. Pyry - AZmodel

Postby RayS » Sun Mar 29, 2015 10:24 am

The Pyry was first conceived by the Finnish State Aircraft Factory (VL) on 1937 when a need arose for a new advanced trainer to prepare pilots for fast monoplanes (Fokker D.XXI at the time). So Pyry (roughly translated as blizzard) was basically built to fill the same role as Texan/Harvard in US. The prototype was finished in 1939. This lead to an order of 40 aircraft that were delivered 1940-41. As the war broke out during the construction, it inevitably caused some delays. 25 examples survived the war and continued to serve until 1962. In the end, total of 28 aircraft were destroyed and 27 pilots were killed. Today, three Pyrys (PY-1, -27 and -35) survive in museums and as far as I know, one of them (PY-27) is on display. The aircraft were numbered from PY-1 (the prototype) to PY-41.

A really unusual and lovely model Ray.
Nicely done, (and she looks great sitting next to the Dak).

Are you going to add a Finnish Air Force Lear 35 to your line-up Ray???
I think the sleek little Lear looks great in the Finnish Air force camo.

I'd love to Ray if I could get my hands on a 1/72 kit and decals!

I know RVHP issued their kit with Finnish Air Force decals. Never got near one though.

Sorry to digress from the main thread Ray, but, by way of what was issued in 1:72, here is what I have in the way of
Lear 35s

Lovely little resin kit, (found on ebay quiet some time ago)

Horrid little vacform kit, (was once the only 1:72 Lear 35 available)

Don't have the RVHP kit so not really sure of what it is like.
I guess you could always give the new(ish) Mach 2 1:72 Lear a crack.
Very cool-looking little jet in these "warry" colours.

hiya I am late seeing this... i rarely look at the airbase, nice model there Ray of what seems to be a caricature of an aeroplane! funny looking little thing, the fin looks way too small (no not the pilot..the vertical stab!).

That is what I like to see, I thought that the Finnish Aircraft was a 45. All the more reason to grab a Mach 2 kit now..
