My next project after the A320 was building the Airfix 737-200, in the old Special Edition rebox from 1987, quite scary that I'm just a couple of months older than this kit!
Well it was certainly a challenging kit, probably more challenging than the others I've done! Some problems:
- The Left Aft Door was a lot smaller than the hole it needed to go in, to the point that none of the edges touched the frame, which resulted in making a makeshift door.
- One of the landing gear legs was broken, well it broke when touching it as it was already loose before I took it off the frame
- Putting the cockpit window in was a right nightmare!
- Filler was needed on the port wing, and the top of the fuselage. It wasn't too bad as that was basically the only things needed filling, the starboard wing was fine as were the tailplanes.
- The decals, from Flightpath, were EXTREMELY delicate! Just moving them caused them to break apart very easily, they folded up easily too which also caused them to break.
- There were no window decals, and the telephone numbers overlap the windows, so I had to punch through the window holes, not easy with delicate decals.
- The manual had no indication on how much ballast to use, so I used some ballast, then put a bit extra in just in case, and in the end it wouldn't sit on it's wheels, it was still too heavy at the back!
Still, as much as it was a mission and a half, it still has a good outcome, and look's like a 737-200. I found the Flightpath EasyJet decals at a model show, the Southern Expo I think, and having never found these anywhere else I had to buy them and give it a go, I doubt I'll be using Flightpath again, but it was good to do the old telephone livery
As you may notice the 'call us directly in the UK' text is a bit broken, that's because the decals fell apart when trying to straighten it up. I instead turned it into a roughed up model applying some weathering, and I think it works wonders
