Boeing EC-135N (The elephant in the room) finally finished!

I finally finished it today, got sick of it collecting dust on the shelf so I made a stand that would bank it 30 degrees and allow it to fit in the display cabinet. I still have to paint and decorate the stand. So today I bit the bullet and weathered and dulled the bugger down..they looked quite beaten up each time I saw them.

Love it!!!!. A very enjoyable and satisfying model to look at. You can almost hear those howling J57s belching black smoke.
Great stuff Wal.

Nice one Wally.

The base piece is familiar, what did you use for the 'uppy' bits of the stand?

Hi Raz,
the following is a cut and paste of a post I put in HRT Pauls F-86 thread:

As it happens I am putting a few stands together. In the interests of most efficiently utilising the volume within my display cases I want to put a few of my larger models on stands, I could find bugger all at prices I was prepared to pay so I made my own for my Stratocruiser and pleased with the results I have just put some sanding sealer on them. I am like you, I don't have the tools or expertise to work in "regular" wood so I fabricate mine out that craft board stuff (made in various shapes available at Bunnings) and balsa and Brass rectangular tubing.

In the picture the larger stand is for my EC135, the model is too big to fit in the cabinet but I want it off the shelf collecting dust, this stand is made from a base board bought from bunnings for the base and laminated craft board with the brass tubing embedded between the laminates, the brass tube fulfills two functions:
Provides strength and rigidity to the stand arm and slots into a larger brass tube glued into the interior of the model. This stand enables the C-135 to be displayed (just) in the cabinet in a 30 degree bank.

The smaller stand is craft board base with a balsa top and the stand arm is again craft board laminate with brass tube within. After sanding I paint these black, I don't really enjoy making these, I resent the time it takes but it is actually not that bad when you have decided upon your design and method.

I think that's what many a KC-135A (and variants) pilots would have said over the years :D .

Oi Big Nose, yeah you!

Great job Wal. I think I need to retire - then I might have some chance to build some models! :D

Cheers

Adam

Very impressive Wal, I do like that monster of yours.
Those stands are another bit of art as well.

Very nice Wally , I remember going through these at Melbourne many years ago . Very impressive aircraft all around. I had my photo taken in front of the very aircraft I went in at Melbourne at the Air Force museum in Dayton Ohio , couldn't believe it was the same aircraft!!! :o
