Paul I reckon we should encourage it... Now that we have our own site devoid of the sycophants, we can have worthy debate. :D great model and these jets should be flying in Australia.

Great work there on one big motha trucka of a fire bomber!

Cheers

Dam Straight!!!
VLATs should have always been here.
Not two months ago I watched very anxiously and nervously as a major fire was approaching my town at frightening speed.
If ever there was a need for the big ol VLAT DC-10 it was on that day.

Here is the ominous view from my front yard that scary Sunday afternoon, (43 degrees and hot blowing northerlys...recipe for disaster!!!):

Go on.....just try and convince me we don't need VLATS!!!!
The only thing missing from these photos is the VLAT DC-10 between that smoke and my house!!!
Ask the residents of Gisborn and the local CFA if they would have liked this "angel of mercy" on hand that nerve-racking afternoon. The big Erickson Sky Cranes did and amazing job, (I was watching them from my roof while I was hosing down things), but the VLAT DC-10 could have done in one pass what took the Sky Cranes nearly an hour to accomplish.
BTW, the good thing about owning my own site is I can talk about the virtues of VLATs all I want for as long as I want and never have to worry about having my posts/threads locked or deleted :D. The site has already paid for it's self in this regard :D

And Knotty....this is one of your best, I love your attention to detail right down to the subtle outer wing droop angle unique to the DC-10, (goes to show that you research and know your subject intimately). Can we please have this lovely model for our A/CAM display???.
Ray
PS: Sorry for hijacking your post Knotty...my bad :?

I don't think Ray was the issue on the other site "that must not be named". It was the other so called experten.

Yeah we had the old Erikson doing laps over our house this summer. Thankfully it put the fire out coming our way. It would've been closer to you though Ray. Someone lit a grass paddock down the hill from our place but thankfully the CFA put it out before it took off.

Maybe we should have a fire bomber display at expo too. That will ruffle some feathers. (just saw Adam's post).
You don’t concentrate on risks. You concentrate on results. No risk is too great to prevent the necessary job from getting done- Chuck Yeager.

If your going to have a VLATS display, you may want to have one of these handy... Mine smoked and burnt out years ago!

VLATely I've been very evil, or should that be Dr. Evil!

Now where are those freakin' lasers for my sharks!!!!

And yes, I'm pro-VLAT - and proud of it! From a OHAS point of view though, perhaps a good thing a huge VLAT didn't put out your fire Ray. I'm guessing that you may have fallen off the roof in excitement and sadly A/CAM may not have come into existence! This is all part of the natural order of the universe I think!
