Zombie Apocalypse Yak-52

Postby Adam the Akrodude » Tue Jun 14, 2016 12:56 pm

I've finally finished this Yak-52 and gotten the "Zombie" off my back! This is the A-Models 1/48 Yak-52 model - not a great kit by any measure! About all I can say about it is the shape appears pretty good. Pretty well every part had to be cleaned up as the moulds are awful with lumps and bumps everywhere. The canopy is atrocious as well - super thick and blurry.
I ended up being 12 months too late for the A/CAM "Aircraft in movies" theme (sorry about that Ray! ), but decided to press ahead using this kit as a technique tester. The artwork for the decals came from the original graphic designer for the movie Resident Evil - Afterlife, who very kindly gave me permission to use these for this project of mine. The whole theme of these movies is a hot kick ass babe (Milla Jovovich) killing lots of zombies = what's not to love right! Relative to the Yak-52 in the movie, I probably under-weathered my Yak!

So, here's my attempt at replicating this rather weather-beaten Yak. Now I can finally get back to Man scale!

Here's Milla nailing a roof top landing in the Yak.

Looking at the pic of the top of the wing, you could've used my decals for the meatballs!
Pretending to do it TAC style with the big boys since 1987
Also, we don't need no steenkin' VLATs!

Thanks guys. I broke over that hump where it was a complete turd to work on and it ended up being fun. I really enjoy the final weathering/filtering I do with the oils. I like my models filthy!
