My Boeing 727 project

Before we go any further, a final comment on the problem I've has with the Hawkeye decal sheet CDS-002. Yesterday I had a nice long chat with Peter who now owns Hawkeye about my problems with the sheet and he sent me an image of the current version Hawkeye has of the TAA 727-100 in its delivery scheme. It turns out that the sheet I had was very old and if you've bought that sheet more recently you might not have the problems that I had. You can tell the difference because the sheet I had offered only markings for VH-TJC whereas later sheet has marking for all siz TAA 727-100s. Peter, with his usual generosity, offered to send me the new sheet but I'd crossed the Rubicon with this model so there was no need.

I can't emphasize how good Peter has been in offering solutions to my problem and that he is a pleasure to deal with. We also touched briefly on the problem of density in Hawkeye's white decals and he tells me that he is trying to overcome this with the batch of white decals he is currently having printed. His generosity in trying to help modellers was also demonstrated when I mentioned that I was keen to model a pre-war ANA DC-3. 'Send me a photo of one', he said, 'and I will see what I can do".

Having finally resolved that problem I've completed the first two of my planned set of Australian 727s. Here is the model of VH-TJC as it appeared in the mid 1960s.



And here is VH-TJC again, as it appeared in the mid 1970s.



Now, on to some 727-200s. And trying to find some decals that would be suitable for making the two 727s that flew in Australia in DHL colours. Ain't life grand.

Now that brings back a few memories....the very first airliner I ever set foot in was VH-TJM, on a school excursion in the late 70s. The whole class trooped through security....oh, hang on, there wasn't any in those days...got to sit in the aircraft, and were shown through the cockpit in pairs. Didn't get to fly then, although I was sorely tempted to stow away

The 727 is such a great looking jet. My first jet ride as a kid was in a 727 on a family trip to Tasmanian when I was 7. I only remember walking up the rear stairs think how cool is this! Can't remember which airline.

What a beautiful pair of 727s, Leigh! They both turned out fantastically well, and I only hope my Pan Am C-97 turns out as nicely.

Having learned that DHL flew two 727s with VH registrations (one of them a -100, which presents certain problems) I decided that I needed more 727 kits. And who should provide them but Ray, who is downsizing or something. So three more 727-200 kits arrived in the mail today and I discovered that each of those kits was moulded in a different colour. So, I could not help myself (except for the wings of one which had already been glued)



Who says modellers don't know how to live it up??!!

Great work there Leigh. I've never flown on a 727 but remember them in the 70s. When we'd deploy say to Townsville the airlines would come in within a couple of minutes of each other under the then 2 airline policy. I'll be watching this project.

Good to see the "multicultural" fleet of 727s arrived safely Leigh.
I was not aware that any assembly had been started on any of these kits, (many of which had been acquired at "swap and sells" etc ). Please accept my apologies as I would have advised you of that fact if I had realised.
Do you need another 727-100 ???. As may be noted I still have one or two 100s available.
