Welsh Models U-4 (Gulfstream G-IV)

Postby RayS » Fri Apr 15, 2022 11:50 am

So adding another kit to the in-work list, lost interest in the HS-125s due to the cutting required for the cheatline decals, I may get back to them one day and finish them off.

It is being built for a the Turning Japanese GB over on BritModeller

I have built a couple of Welsh kits before, this time I hope to manage to master a clear cockpit windscreen!

Here are the box and bits...

A single sheet of parts plus some resin and white metal to keep it interesting

I have outlined the parts in prep for cutting

and the decals

Onward and upward!

I removed the fuselage and wing parts from the sheet
Image

The fuselage is quite large compared to a Mig21!

Clean up of the bulkhead parts and cockpit floor
Image

Tabs were added to sand the wings
Image

Most of the horizontal stabs have been sanded
Image

I have started to remove the windscreen panels

And finally, the engines went together

That looks nice Ray. I've never built a vacform kit before but I'd like to give it a crack one day. Keep up the great work mate :)

Moving right along...

The instructions give locations of the bulkheads to be installed along the fuselage but the location of the nose one would have it protrude into the nose wheel well if you make the cut out where the scribed lines are.

The scribing of the nose wheel well doors needs to be moved back about 4mm so the fronts align with the bulkhead, the scale diagram included actually shows the doors in the right place.

The cockpit parts were assembled and the cutouts of the nose wheel well were made

I also cut out the doors to the main wells in the wings

After I finished sanding the wings to the correct thickness (well close enough for me anyway) I taped the sub-assemblies together to make sure it was look right.

Some work on the cockpit this arvo, and I think the floor is a tad high. I'm going to have to move that floor down a mil or two

Thanks, Paul!

A little more work, I moved the cockpit floor down and have started to play with the engine mounts.

I also boxed in the main gear wells.

Looking at some pictures I will need to add some extra details like the antenna fit and APU exhaust to name a couple of things.

You're doing a good job here. I had a go at this kit and made a total mess of it so it ended up in the bin. Yours looks like it will make it through to completion very nicely.
