BPK CRJ-200ER - Kendell Airlines

Postby RayS » Fri Feb 07, 2025 4:11 pm

This is the Big Planes Kits (BPK) CRJ-100 kit in 1/72 scale, we have seen Uros' multiple builds of various CRJs in 1/144 and 1/72 so I though I would have a go at mine.
Image

The kit includes the normal injected parts along with resin and etch parts, as well as a nice window (and paint) mask sheet (not pictured).
Image

I will build this CRJ-100 as a CRJ-200ER, Externally there is no difference to these two aircraft, the engine version being the difference. I will build it as a Kendell Airlines aircraft They were a region operator who were sucked into the then Ansett Airlines vortex in and 90s and did not survive the Ansett collapse in the early 2000s
Image

I made a start yesterday. The office parts were prepped and painted. The instrument panel and coaming are not glued as there are a few decals to to add. I may add seat belts as well
Image

I also made a start on the flying surfaces

And finally the slot was cut out before fitting the cabin window clear strip

I have some choices coming up.

Moving along,

The cockpit is decaled and nose weight added to the nose cone.

Major assemblies (minus engines) taped together
Image

Size wise it is just smaller in length and span than a Gulfstream G-IV

Here are the engines parts removed from their pour stubs

And assembled

I then turned to the internals and decided to have a go at building the forward entry/galley area.

Looks like it will fit.

I have now also cut out the entry door, there is no going back now!

Masks applied to the windscreen.

I have been dealing with the cabin windows inserts for the past few days, trying to fair them in. It is a known problem that they sit proud of the fuselage when fitted. I thought I had remediated the issue before gluing but it was not the case.

This was after 3-4 rounds on sanding filling and filing and there were obvious gaps/seams and areas sitting proud.
Image

So today I popped them out and removed all the material behind the window pieces and reglued as flush as I could get it
Image

The cockpit was glued into the nose section
Image

The entry/galley area was painted up and installed
Image

and finally I made up one set of seats (work in progress) as the part of the first row of seats could be seen from the door. I suppose I could have just put a curtain there (which I still might do!)

Well moving along, the cabin windows have been tidied, who knows how they will look under paint again.

The scratch built seats were not installed, I decided on a curtain made of foil instead which folded up somehow when the fuselage parts went together. So there are no seats or curtain now.

I have also brought the major components together with more filling sanding to come
